After a breakup, an international student from the Philippines finds herself lost, alone and broke in Melbourne. As she starts to build a new life, she becomes a solitary body exploring the city, moving between share houses and drifting from job to job while navigating a Kafkaesque migration system.
She develops an intense desire for what this foreign city has to offer – friendship and love, sex, creative success, a stable living situation – and finds various ways to satiate this hunger. But when she learns that her dreams are no pathway to the permanence she craves, she contemplates a move that would threaten to destroy everything.
Lyrical and piercingly insightful, this highly anticipated debut will appeal to readers of Jessica Au, Rachel Cusk, Katie Kitamura and Sarah Bernstein.
